Body Found During Search on Horn Island

HORN ISLAND, Miss. — A body was recovered Monday morning during an extensive search operation for missing 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells, who disappeared while visiting Horn Island over the Fourth of July weekend. Authorities have stated that the body matches Wells’ description, although official identification and the final cause of death remain pending.

According to investigators, Wells traveled to Horn Island with friends on July 4 and was last seen around 3:00 p.m. on the island. Family members reported him missing after he failed to return home, prompting a large-scale search involving multiple local, state, and federal agencies.

Large Search Effort on Horn Island

Search crews included members of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Department of Marine Resources, Gulf Islands National Seashore personnel, and volunteers from the United Cajun Navy. Air, land, and marine teams searched throughout the weekend in hopes of locating the missing teenager.

Authorities reported that the body was found Monday morning near the western end of Horn Island by a park ranger during the ongoing search operation.
