Known by many as Houston’s millionaire matchmaker, Amber Starr opened up about her journey, her rebrand, her family’s influence, and the mission that continues to push her forward.
From Amber Low to Amber Starr: A Rebrand Built on Legacy
Amber Starr shared that her current rebrand is more than a name change — it is a way to honor her late father, Rex Roundtree, a Marine veteran, entrepreneur, and the person who helped shape her discipline and business mindset.
“I just want to honor him. So I decided, you know what? I’m gonna rebrand,” Amber explained during the interview.
With the new identity of Amber Starr, she is expanding her vision as the founder of multiple creative and community-focused initiatives, including Starverse Media, a platform designed to highlight Houston talent, creators, and entrepreneurs.
Through Starverse, Amber is developing projects such as Starcast TV, Starcast Music, and Starcast Academy, with the goal of helping artists and creators gain more opportunities without having to leave Houston to find success.
Building a Houston Movement Through Collaboration
Amber believes Houston has incredible talent but says one of the biggest challenges is the lack of collaboration within the city’s creative and business communities.
As a Houston native from the Greenspoint area, Amber wants to change the mindset from competition to partnership.
“Houston is the third largest city, and people think we have to go to Atlanta, LA, or New York,” she shared. “We need to collaborate and put Houston on the map.”
Her vision is to create more opportunities for local entrepreneurs, artists, and professionals by building connections and creating platforms where people can grow together.
Turning Personal Pain Into a Mission for Mental Health Awareness
One of the most powerful moments of the conversation came when Amber discussed the loss of her younger sister to suicide and how that experience changed her life.
Amber explained that grief forced her to look deeper into mental health, trauma, addiction, and generational struggles that many families face but often do not discuss.
“That keeps me awake and keeps me pioneering ways to get the word out,” Amber said.
Her mission is now focused on suicide prevention, mental health education, and helping people find purpose during difficult seasons of life.
Through Corporate Comedy Live Wellness Institute, Amber combines humor, education, and mental health awareness to create conversations that help people remove the masks they often wear.
Using Comedy as a Tool for Healing
Amber describes herself as the world’s only matchmaker comedian, using laughter as a way to connect with people and open conversations about serious topics.
She believes comedy can become a bridge that allows people to talk about struggles, trauma, and healing in a way that feels approachable.
“Everything we do is a mask,” Amber shared. “We say we’re fine, but we’re dying inside.”
Her goal is to encourage people to be honest about their emotions and seek the support they need.
Creating Opportunities for Houston Youth
Amber’s passion extends beyond entertainment and into youth development. She shared plans for future initiatives, including Tribe Root Villages, a project focused on teaching young people valuable skills, encouraging entrepreneurship, and helping them discover their purpose.
Growing up in Houston, Amber believes in returning to the communities that shaped her and providing resources that can help the next generation succeed.
“I don’t believe in gentrification. I believe in going into the places you came from and teaching a different way,” Amber explained.
Her vision includes trade programs, career development opportunities, and skill-based training designed to prepare young people for the future.
The Importance of Investing in Future Leaders
For Amber, investing in youth is about creating a stronger future.
She believes that once people gain knowledge and understand their purpose, they can create meaningful change in their own lives and communities.
“Once you know better, you do better,” she said.
